High definition 3D is the next hot thing in TV and on the web, which means virtual reality may finally be right around the proverbial corner. While porn, gaming and cinema will likely offer the first truly immersive applications, it won’t be long before the technology filters out into the world and impacts everything from the way we access e-mail to, you guessed it, design “magazines.” Imagine being able to virtually walk through one of Elle Decor’s spectacular homes! But somehow I don’t think we’ll see the end of traditional media for quite some time. People have been talking about the death of radio since the birth of TV, but in reality, radio has just evolved. There’s nothing quite like listening to NPR while driving on the freeway, and I don’t care whether I’m listening to This American Life on AM, FM, satellite or Internet radio. It’s the content that counts.
